The Illinois Science Council presents, The Body Electric – a shockingly fun program on the science and technology of electricity and the human body. A panel of experts will explain:
- How electricity occurs naturally in the body and how it works in humans and animals (Malcolm MacIver, PhD, Northwestern University)
- What happens when lightning strikes a person? How do people survive that? (Mary Ann Cooper, MD, University of Illinois at Chicago)
- How do Tasers actually work on the human body? (Mark Kroll, PhD, Taser International)
- What’s the science and technology behind defibrillators? (Douglas Miller, EMT-P, MBA, Acute Care Education Systems, Inc. )

Time: 6:30 – 8:30pm
Location: Lucky Strike, Wine Room (Restaurant, Bowling & Billiards) 322 E. Illinois St. on Second Floor of AMC Theaters building, Chicago, IL
Cost: FREE, but arrive early to ensure a seat.
Parking: Best bet is 1 block east at River East Arts Center Garage, 456 E. Illinois at Peshtigo - $8 for 5 hours but you MUST get ticket validated at Lucky Strike. Parking in AMC Theater building is $15/4 hours with validation. No valet parking.
Public Transit: CTA Bus routes 2, 29 65, 66, 124 ; Closest El is Red Line at Grand & State
People of all ages are welcome at Science Council events although our programs are targeted more to adults than children.
The bar will be open and food will be available from the Lucky Strike menu. If you want to bowl after the program, you should call to see if lanes can be reserved.
