The island of Madagascar fascinates the public and biologists alike with its extraordinary numbers of unique species. In 1989, Steve Goodman launched a survey of the biodiversity of Madagascar which has yet to stop. This research program has spawned discoveries of hundreds of new species of plants and animals, as well as the training of over 80 Malagasy graduate students. The project has recently been turned over to a NGO, known as Vahatra or "grass-roots" in Malagasy, with a trust fund to support long-term conservation programs in Madagascar. Come hear this modern day Darwin describe the wonders of Madagascar on the 199th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth.

Directions:

For a map of campus showing the building see:

You can park in any faculty, staff, or student parking lot in the evening without any special permit.

If using public transportation, take the Purple line to the Noyes stop and walk East to Sheridan Road. Because it's a university campus where street addresses are not terribly helpful, we recommend taking with you the following instructions for cutting through the enormous Tech Institute building and using the walkways to reach the lecture hall.

Directions to Hogan Hall from Tech Institute (2145 Sheridan Road):

Inside the main entrance to Tech, make right turn and go to the end of the hall and make a left turn. Follow signs for the K wing. Go down hall to the end where there is a TV monitor hanging. Make a left turn. Go through the double doors and make an immediate right turn.
Walk up ramp and make left turn at end of ramp. Go through doors and turn right. Turn right again and cross bridge into Hogan Hall. Keep going straight and go to your left. Go to your left again and keep coming around until you get to the walkway pointing towards the Pancoe Building (southeast).
Hogan 2-144 is the office with the window.

Since the lecture is in the Pancoe Building, continue walking past Hogan 2-144 and cross over corridor bridge into Pancoe. Go to first floor (take elevator down one floor) and entrance to auditorium will be to your right as you exit the elevator.
