IMSS: Conversation Between Curator and Artist-in-Residence
May 15, 2014 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pmFree
The International Museum of Surgical Science is hosting a free public talk with current Artist-in-Residence Vesna Jovanovic and Curator of Exhibitions Lindsey Thieman who discuss the outcomes of a visibly situated contemporary art practice within the surgery-themed museum collection.
While reflecting on the artist’s residency program through their respective fields, Jovanovic and Thieman invite the audience to walk through the studio space and view the evening’s exclusive display of work-in-progress and related artifacts pulled from the museum archives. The artist and curator engage in a conversation about both the planned and unexpected consequences of a publicly accessible artist’s residency within a surgical science setting.
Vesna Jovanovic is a Chicago-based artist who subverts medical illustration through meticulously rendered works on paper. Thieman is the Curator of Exhibitions who has organized a whole range of innovative programs at the museum in the past decade. The event is free and open to the public.
The International Museum of Surgical Science is a located in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.
