ISC hosts its 6th Annual celebration of pi, running and pie on “Pi Day,” 3.14 2018, or Wednesday, March 14, with the Pi Day “Pi K” fun run or walk and post-party featuring pizza, pie and trivia with prizes! This celebration of math & pi will take place at Fleet Feet Sports running stores in and around Chicago.
Tickets go on sale at noon January 3, 2018 at http://PiDayRun.org.
Run Start & Course:
The 3.14-mile “Pi K” run or walk will start at 6:28pm (or 2 Pi) from the Fleet Feet store or nearby. Choose your location ticket wisely as changing is gonna cost you. Fleet Feet running experts will determine the course route. Maps will be available at check-in and possibly in advance.
A Pi K t-shirt will be given to each runner who registers by March 1. After that, we can’t guarantee supply or sizes. The cotton shirt with the awesome Pi K logo is available in small, medium, large and x-large.
Packets & Party:
There is positively NO PACKET pick-up prior to the run but there will be a pizza and pie party after! You’ll get your t-shirt when you check in. Bag check will be available at the stores and you can change clothes there, so please arrive early. Post-run, back at Fleet Feet, there will be pizza, pie, beer, and a trivia quiz with prizes!
ISC is thrilled to partner with Fleet Feet Sports, Chicago’s top running source, for this fun annual event. If you are interested in sponsorship opportunities, email Monica at info@IllinoisScience.org.
This is Chicago. Weather on March 14 could be warm and sunny, or cold, windy and wet. Please dress accordingly. Pi K takes place rain, snow or shine. If cancellation is warranted due to severe weather conditions, announcements will be made on the day of the run, not in advance. There are no refunds.
The Significance of Pi:
Pi, in case you don’t remember, is abbreviated to 3.14 but continues indefinitely. To date, it has been calculated by computer to over 1.2 trillion digits. Competitions exist for reciting the most digits by memory. As the world’s most famous mathematical constant, Pi is important to many formulas used in mathematics, science, engineering and statistics.
Your body benefits because you’re exercising it with a slightly elongated 5K.
Your brain benefits from cardio exercise, thinking & learning about pi, plus exercising it with our trivia quiz.
Your heart & mind benefit because you appreciate that all event proceeds benefit ISC’s efforts to bring engaging public programs on science, technology, engineering and math to our community.
