Sticks & Stones, Particles & Batteries: Benjamin Franklin Would Be Pleased

April 25, 2014 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

This month the Fermilab Lecture Series presents:
Sticks & Stones, Particles & Batteries: Ben Franklin Would Be Pleased with Dr. Nigel S. Lockyer, Fermilab’s Director.

The rapid evolution of particle physics over the last century, from the discovery of the electron to the most recent observation of the Higgs Boson particle, has been matched by advances in technology and the concomitant improvements in our standard of living. Benjamin Franklin, ever inquisitive about how nature worked and how it affects us, would certainly enjoy the particle physics of today and would be in wonder about how we got this far so fast. Just as humanity’s prosperity, security, and comfort have been propelled forward by cheap sources of energy, so too has the field of particle physics.

In this lecture, Dr. Lockyer will discuss this incessant progress as it relates to particles, their applications as tools, and the role of energy.

Tickets – $7  On-line ticketing is now available here.
