How Babies Learn to Understand and Speak
Have you ever gazed into a baby’s eyes and wondered, what is going on in their little head? If yes then you share the same interests as developmental psychologists. Many people have pondered the origins of knowledge. Do we acquire knowledge through experiences interaction with the world? In 1890, philosopher William James described the mental experience of the newborn as a “blooming buzzing confusion.” In contrast, today we know that babies are quite sophisticated in their early knowledge.
At this month’s Northwestern University Science Cafe, Associate Professor of Psychology, Dr. Susan Hespos, will share the latest scientific findings about what infants know in the first months of life.
