Winter Solstice

December 21, 2017

It’s the scientific start to winter in the Northern Hemisphere, when this half of the world tilts away from the sun. The Sun’s direct light will hit as far south on Earth as it does all year – on the Tropic of Capricorn, which lies at 23.437 degrees south of the Equator. You guessed it, that is the same angle as the Earth’s tilt relative to the Sun.
