Grant Park, Butler Field
(Monroe St. between Lake Shore Drive and Columbus)
The Academy Award-winning film stars Sam Shepard, Ed Harris, Dennis Quaid and Barbara Hershey, and was directed by Phillip Kaufman.
The Right Stuff is a fascinating account of the test pilots involved in high-speed aeronautical research at Edwards Air Force Base as well as those selected to be astronauts for the Mercury program, America's first attempt at manned spaceflight. The story contrasts the "Mercury Seven" and their families with pilots like Chuck Yeager, who was considered by many test pilots to be the best of them all, but who was never selected as an astronaut. For detailed information about the film see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086197/.
This screening is FREE and open to the public. The film runs approximately 3 hours. Film will be cancelled only due to severe weather. No pets allowed in the park. This film is brought to you in collaboration with the Mayor's Office of Special Events.
Inaugurated in the fall of 2001, the One Book, One Chicago program is launched each spring and fall to cultivate a culture of reading and discussion in Chicago by bringing our diverse city together around one great book. Reading great literature provokes us to think about ourselves, our environment and our relationships. Talking about great literature with friends, families and neighbors often adds richness and depth to the experience of reading.
