DESCRIPTION:Get back to nature with the City Nature Challenge\nISC is excited to present an Identification Social for the global event “City Nature Challenge.” We’ll gather at Metropolitan Brewery with other citizen scientists\, get a quick tutorial on how to use iNaturalist\, and then hang out enjoying the local brew while marking observations that occurred over the past weekend. \nBring your own laptop or device to work on!  Metropolitan is family and dog friendly\, with gluten-free and NA options. \nCan’t make it that evening? That’s okay. You can head out into ANY nature near you the previous weekend to participate. It’s easy and a fun way to engage with nature when you’re in a large city! Anyone\, anywhere can search for wild plants\, animals\, and other creatures between April 28th and May 1st to see how many species you can find and show the world how diverse our Chicago region is. Add your observations to iNaturalist and they’ll automatically be included in the project. Happy exploring! \nAbout the City Nature Challenge:\nStarted in 2016 as a competition between San Francisco and Los Angeles\, the City Nature Challenge (CNC) has grown into an international event\, motivating people around the world to find and document wildlife in their cities. The CNC is an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April\, where cities are in a collaboration-meets-friendly-competition to see not only what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal\, but also which city can gather the most observations of nature\, find the most species\, and engage the most people in the event.

Now is your chance to really understand the chemical reactions in beer they would never teach in high school chemistry! \nIllinois Science Council brings back our most popular “Chemistry for Adults” program in partnership with the awesome people at Chicago’s Metropolitan Brewery. Join us for a unique hands-on Chemistry of Beer event with ISC’s Chemist-in-Residence\, Dr. Lindsey McQuade. Whether you consider yourself a connoisseur or one who just occasionally partakes\, come learn the inside\, chemical scoop on one of the oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic drinks in the world. \nThis event is not just a talk or a tasting (although there will certainly be tasting!). You will engage in hands-on chemistry experiments and leave with an insider’s view of the craft beer brewing process at Metropolitan. You’ll learn about your beloved beverage in new ways to impress others with your beer knowledge. Our friends at Metropolitan are fun and low-key\, but they are serious about craft beer. \nSpace is limited. No science prerequisite is necessary\, only your curiosity\, but you must be 21 or older. The ticket price include a brewery tour and tastings\, and experimenting \n \nTHANKS to our partner Metropolitan Brewing for hosting!\nThis Chemistry of Beer program is part of the 2019 Chicago Science Fest!
