On Sept. 5, 1977, Voyager 1 began its mission through our solar system, the second of the two Voyager spacecraft to launch. It gave us amazing views of Jupiter and Saturn before becoming the first spacecraft from Earth to enter interstellar space in 2012. The Times will soon report on the anniversary of this important moment in the human exploration of space.
