Eighty-five years ago, the newly-opened Adler Planetarium was a central attraction at the Century of Progress World’s Fair.

The Fair’s motto—Science Finds, Industry Applies, Man Conforms—focused on a promising future full of scientific progress and technological innovation during the throes of the Great Depression. Explore the legacy of the Fair and look forward to the innovations that await us in 2033—a century since the Fair and Chicago’s bicentennial—this fall at Adler After Dark.

Get ready to:

  • Travel back to 1933 with Chicago 00, an immersive VR project produced in collaboration with the Chicago History Museum and filmmaker Geoffrey Alan Rhodes
  • Check out select objects & prints from the Fair in a special “Collections Corner” program and a special pop-up program with our friends from One Book, One Chicago& the Chicago Public Library
  • Explore technologies of the near-future & meet the folks making it happen at our “Future World’s Fair” featuring partners like the Array of ThingsPlant ChicagoThe James Dyson Foundation, and more
  • Commemorate your experience with a postcard or poem from Poems While You Wait, a typewriter performance collective that produces poetry on demand

Travel back and flash forward in time this November and experience Chicago—and the planetarium—as you never have before, drink in hand, only at Adler After Dark. This event is 21+
