Gravity bends light, in a similar way to a wine glass on the dinner table distorting the light of a candle behind it. This phenomenon is called gravitational lensing. For cosmologists, this is one of the most straightforward ways to measure the distribution of  “stuff,” or mass, in the Universe.

Professor Chang will describe several different types of gravitational lensing and present results from some current experiments.
