Join ISC to learn what the City Nature Challenge is about, and how to use iNaturalist to make nature observations with your phone.

The CNC is an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April. Cities around the U.S. and world are in a collaboration-meets-friendly-competition to see what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal. Also which city gathers the most observations of nature, finds the most species, and engages the most people in the event.

ISC is pleased to present a virtual presentation in advance of Chicago’s City Nature Challenge. You’ll hear from two of our Associates, Liz Lux and Michael Sherillo, detailing the history of the challenge and how it works, how to use the iNaturalist app to participate on the weekend, and what organisms you might find in your urban environment.

To be guaranteed a spot, register HERE:  All registrants will be emailed a Zoom link to join the presentation. We’ll have plenty of time for questions and discussion with the presenters.

Then you can take the knowledge learned and join Liz in person at Chicago’s West Ridge Nature Park on Saturday morning, April 30, 10am-12noon to make observations of the flora and fauna you see! No need to register to join the walk at West Ridge Nature Park — just show up! We’ll gather near the entrance at 10am and be there until about noon.

Can’t make it to that location? That’s okay. You can head out into ANY nature near you all weekend to participate. It’s easy and a fun way to engage with nature when you’re in a large city! Anyone, anywhere can search for wild plants, animals, and other creatures between April 29th and May 2nd to see how many species you can find and show the world how diverse our Chicago region is. Add your observations to iNaturalist and they’ll automatically be included in the CNC project for Chicago.
