Science Social 12 — When we get to beta-test a social game!

If you’re a fan of science, join us for this casual opportunity to meet and socialize with others who like science. At this event, we get to help a researcher beta test a game!

ISC created Science Socials simply as an opportunity to hang out for drinks and casual conversation with other science fans. Whether you work in science or are just interested in science discoveries and research, now is a great time to meet like-minded folks! At this Science Social, WE get to be the “lab rats!”  Steve Franconeri, PhD, Northwestern University Professor of cognitive psychology, developed Point Taken, a game easy to master at any age. It’s designed to turn heated arguments into a joint exploration supported by mutual respect and honest thinking. He will explain his reasoning and the research behind it the game, then we will play it and provide feedback.

This is a great follow up to ISC’s program last fall — Your Brain on Misinformation.  Dr. Matthew Facciani presented his work for Misguided: Where Misinformation Starts, How It Spreads, and What to Do About It. Attendees were very interested in how to persuade relatives discussing politics and had a lively post-presentation conversation about how to have productive non-argumentative conversations. This game will be a great exercise in that effort.
